Researchers at the University of California have transformed ordinary white fat cells into beige fat cells using CRISPR gene-editing technology, which burn a significant amount of kilocalories to produce heat. These cells were then implanted near tumors, similar to fat grafting procedures in cosmetic surgery. The beige fat cells consumed nutrients, leaving little chance for the tumor cells to survive. The method proved effective even when the fat cells were placed further away from the tumors. The study was published in the journal Nature Biotechnology.
